Abstract

452,456. Purifying liquids; swimming-baths. AULD, B. H., 66, Victoria Street, Westminster. April 8, 1935; No. 10872. [Classes 26 and 46] In sterilizing water or other liquid, which is spread over a large area with varying depth as in a reservoir, swimming pool or bath,.by means of ozone or other gas, the gas is admitted through pipe outlets of size varying at different levels so that less of the gas escapes at a higher than at a lower outlet. The area of an outlet may be proportional to the head of liquid above it. Figs. 1 and 2 show a swimming bath with sloping bottom to which the water is supplied down a cascade 22. Ozone is supplied through a header 24 at one side of the bath and branch pipes 26 in groups, the members of which extend for different distances across the bath, the outlets from branches of each group being of the same size, but of a different size from those of other groups. The water may be supplied to the cascade through a rising main 34 to which ozone may be admitted through a branch with an elbow inside the main pointing in the direction of flow. Fig. 7 shows a bath to which ozone is supplied through three headers 40, 41, 42, the headers 40, 41, being arranged longitudinally in the centre of the bath and having transverse branches 44, while the header 42 extends transversely at the deep-end of the bath and has longitudinal branches 46. The headers are connected to a main feeder 48 and have separate control valves. Fig. 11 shows an arrangement in which water is supplied from a filter 58 through a main 60 to both ends of the bath through branches 62, 64. Some of the water flows through a byepass 66 with pump 68 and injector 70 by means of which air is drawn in through a drier 82, an ozonizer 73 and a pipe 72. A vacuum regulator 78 connected to the pipe 72 is sensitive to the sub-atmospheric pressure at the injector 70 and controls the electricity supply to the ozonizer.
