423,206. Openers or scutchers for cotton &c. BROOKS & DOXEY, Ltd., NEWELL, S., Union Iron Works, West Gorton, Manchester, and GREG, H. G., Lode Hill, Styal, Cheshire. Oct. 31, 1933, No. 30168. [Class 120 (i)] An opener, scutcher or like machine is provided with a single rotary perforated cage or drum A rotating at relatively high speed, e.g. 80 r.p.m., in combination with a smooth flexible travelling belt D contacting with a predetermined peripheral area of the cage A without an unsealed gap or space between the cage and the belt as the fibres are carried forward. The belt D is supported on pulleys or rollers d, d<1>, the roller d being driven and the roller d<1> adjustable to take up slack or vary the arc of contact with the cage A. A doffer E is provided below the belt D at the delivery end and another doffer may be provided near the drum A.
