Abstract
In the production of solid hypochlorite-chloride mixtures by the action of chlorine on finely divided alkali hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide, the rate of chlorination is so controlled that temperatures well above 30 DEG C. and preferably of about 60 DEG C. are attained in the reaction mixture. In carrying out the process the hydroxide is subjected to intensive agitation in the reaction vessel, and the latter cooled, if necessary, to maintain the temperature at about 60 DEG C. The reaction product is highly insensitive to temperature and may contain, according to an example, 23 per cent of available chlorine.
