Abstract

Ferric sulphate chloride containing water of crystallization is obtained by treating an intimate powdered mixture of solid anhydrous ferrous sulphate and solid crystalline ferrous sulphate in such proportions as to give six molecular proportions of water to one molecular proportion of ferrous sulphate in a closed apparatus under slight pressure with chlorine. The reaction may be effected without application of external heat under a pressure of 1 to 2 atmospheres with stirring. An example of operation is given. The product is useful for tanning.
