Description

Process for the production of iron sulfate chloride containing water of crystallization It is known to be non-hygroscopic, particularly suitable for tanning purposes To prepare iron salt in such a way that one can dissolve or chlorine on ferrous sulfate can also act in an anhydrous state. Both procedures have, however, as a result proved to be unsuitable due to their cumbersome and tediousness. One goes in the production of the iron salt from the aqueous ferrous sulfate solution, from, po the end product must be concentrated in the air-diluted room during the chlorination this anhydrous salt takes far too long. Furthermore was proposed to include all components of this iron salt (ferric sulfate chloride) of the water in the weight ratio corresponding to the formula Fe S 04 Cl # 6 H2 O to bring in reaction. This procedure also turned out to be too costly and Too cumbersome for practice, not usable.

It has been found that the non-hygroscopic ferric sulfate chloride can be obtained in a relatively short time in t oo% yield if one in a ground mixture of solid, dehydrated and solid crystallized ferrous sulfate in a closed apparatus at normal temperature under excess pressure chlorine to to saturation .introduces. Here one chooses the mixing ratio of anhydrous most appropriate to the water-containing ferrous sulfate, so that the 'resulting ferrous sulfate chloride Contains 6 molecules of crystal water; in this case is not necessary after the end Chlorination is the concentration in the air-diluted room.

If, for example, r oo kg is chlorinated to 6 moles of water, dehydrated ferrous sulfate (FeS04 # 6H20) or a mixture of anhydrous or water-containing ferrous sulfate corresponding to this gross formula at normal temperature until the divalent iron is completely oxidized at an excess pressure of 0.5 to 1.5 Atm., This takes 6 hours. The higher the pressure, the shorter the chlorination time. If you double the pressure, you need about 5 hours. The most practical way of working is the described application of 0.5 to 1.5 atm. View pressure. If the same starting materials are treated under otherwise identical conditions, but without the application of pressure, a period of about 16 hours for the introduction of the chlorine is necessary for complete oxidation.

It is also possible to work at an elevated temperature, however Ordinary temperature has proven to be the most suitable.
