Abstract

Propylene dichloride, mixed or not with higher chlorinated propylenes, is obtained by reacting with propylene upon liquid chlorine; the propylene may be used in gas or liquid form. If liquid chlorine is added to an excess of liquid propylene, the product is pure propylene dichloride; if, however, liquid propylene is added to an excess of liquid chlorine, the product is propylene dichloride mixed with trichlorpropylene &c. The reagents may be initially diluted with propylene dichloride or with an inert solvent such as carbon tetrachloride. Specification 136,489 is referred to.
