Abstract

Organic fluorine compounds of high thermal stability are produced by a process which comprises reacting an organic compound containing hydrogen with chlorine trifluoride in the presence of antimony or an antimony containing compound as catalyst. Halogenated organic material prepared by reacting an organic compound with chlorine trifluoride until no more reaction ensures according to the process of Specification 633,678 may be employed as starting materials. Products having lubricating properties may be obtained. In examples: (1)-(3) halogenated products obtained by reacting white spirit, decalin and cetane respectively with chlorine trifluoride according to the process of Specification 633,678, are treated with further chlorine trifluoride in the presence of (1) antimony powder, (2) and (3) antimony pentochloride. The products are washed with aqueous caustic soda and sulphuric acid and after distillation the acidity produced by passing air through the heated material is determined.
