Abstract

Alkyl derivatives of guanidine or salts thereof in which the alkyl groups contain at least eight carbon atoms are used as assistants in aqueous baths for the treatment of textiles. They may be used as wetting and washing agents and they also enable uniform dyeings to be obtained with basic dyestuffs. The following guanidines are mentioned: octyl, decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl and hexadecyl guanidines, methyl and ethyl dodecylguanidines and undecyloylaminoethylguanidines. Decylguanidine is prepared, in the form of its chloride, by reacting cyanamide with decylamine hydrochloride in alcohol. Other alkyl guanidines are prepared in a similar manner. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of higher alkyl and the aryl guanidines as emulsifying agents and mentions guanidines derived from glycolchlorhydrindodecyl ether, bromaceticlauryl ester and monoheptyloyl diaminobenzene. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the use of higher alkyl and aryl substituted guanidines as emulsifying agents, the alkyl groups having at least eight carbon atoms. Octyl, decyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl and hexadecyl guanidines, methyl and ethyl dodecylguanidines and guanidines derived from glycolchlorhydrindodecylether, bromaceticlauryl ester, monoheptyloyldiaminobenzene and undecyloylaminoethane are mentioned. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
