Abstract
Organic compounds containing at least one lipophile group and at least one thiosulphuric ester group are stated to improve the peptizing properties of aqueous liquids used for the treatment of textiles, leather, paper, fur and other fibrous materials. The compounds may be prepared by treating the corresponding mercapto compounds with the addition product of sulphur trioxide and pyridine. Lipophile groups are defined as aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon residues containing at least six carbon atoms, and they may be connected to the thiosulphuric ester group either directly or through bridge groups such as short carbon chains, ether, ester and amino, amido, sulphonyl or sulphide groups. Ester salts having the formul RCOOCH2CH2SSO3Na and ROCOCH2 SSO3Na in which R stands for an organic residue containing at least one lipophile group and dodecylthiosulphuric ester are specified. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the manufacture of the compounds employed by condensing the corresponding halogen compounds with salts of thiosulphuric acid. Reference is made to the use of the compounds in the cosmetic and oil and fat industries and it is stated that they are emulsifying agents. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 390,416 and 397,445.ALSO:Organic compounds containing at least one lipophile group and at least one thiosulphuric ester group are added to aqueous liquids used for the treatment of textiles, leather, paper, fur and other fibrous materials. The compounds may be used as foaming, impregnating, peptizing, stabilizing and equalizing agents, and also as solvents and soap substitutes. In an example, a solution suitable for washing cotton fabric is prepared by dissolving dodecylthiosulphuric acid ester sodium salt in tap water. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the manufacture of the compounds employed by condensing the corresponding halogen compounds with salts of thiosulphuric acid. Reference is made to the use of the compounds in the dyestuff, cosmetic and oil and fat industries and it is stated that they are emulsifying agents. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 390,416 and 397,445.
