Abstract
421,501. Cutting lard &c. THORN, F. J., Tytherleigh, Fletton Avenue, Peterborough. Dec. 8, 1933, No. 34564. [Class 87 (ii)] Means for cutting a block 10 of lard or the like into a number of equally-dimensioned smaller blocks comprises a base frame 1, guiding bars 6 mounted and pivoted so as to be capable of movement parallel to the base similarly to a parallel rule, and a cutter wire 14 adapted to be drawn along the bars 6. Upright bars 3, 4 are pivoted at each side of the frame 1 and the bars 4 are connected by a stay 5. Seven bars 6 on each side are pivotally connected to both bars 3, 4 and the top bars 6 are connected by a flat bar 7. The bars 6 are of increasing length from the top downwards. In use, the block 10 is placed longways upon a tray 11 within the frame 1 and the bars 3, 4, 6 are moved until the bar 7 contacts with the top surface of the block and a stop plate 13 abuts against the upright surface. The wire 14 is drawn by handles 15 along each of the six pairs of bars 6 below the top pair so as to cut the block into seven equal slices. The tray 11 is withdrawn and a further tray is placed against a long narrow side of the block which is turned over so as to be supported thereon and reinserted within the apparatus. A detachable flat metal stop 8 is placed on the central bars 6 which are moved until the stop 8 contacts with the block and a stop plate 18 abuts against the end thereof. The cutter is guided along each of the three lower pairs of bars 6 to divide the block into 28 pieces. If further division is required, as for half-pound blocks from a 281b. block, the block is turned over on to a wide side and the cutter drawn along the lowest but one pair of bars 6.
