Abstract

230,222. Jack, G. Jan. 16, 1924. Stream-cutting machines ; butter and cheese cutters.-In apparatus for cutting blocks of butter, &c. into pieces of approximately equal weight, abase A supports two tables B, B<1> each consisting of a frame having mounted therein a plurality of slats b, b', of which some are adjustably mounted, and in connection with each table there is provided a hinged frame C, E having a plurality of cutting- wires D, D'. The block to be cut is first operated on by one cutting- frame C and the smaller blocks thus obtained are then transferred to the second table B<1>, and subdivided by the corresponding cutting-frame E. The two end slats of each frame are secured to the frame, the intermediate slats being adjustably mounted by means of bolts b' passing through them, and engaging in a space between two longitudinal metal strips b<2>, b<3>, where in any adjusted position they may be clamped by wing-nuts b<6>. The cutting-frame C is hinged at c to a batten A<1> secured to the base and the frame is similarly hinged at e. The cutting-wires in each frame are carried by means of longitudinal bars F, G, as shown in Fig. 4, the bar F being engaged by a number of blocks H, the stems of which pass rearwardly through the back of the frame where they are retained by nuts h. The bar G is engaged by hooks J passing through the front of the frame, and.having the threaded ends of their stems engaged by wing- nuts j, by means of which the wires are tensioned. Each cutting-wire extends between U-shaped members K. K<1> slidably mounted on the bars F, G respectively, the ends of the wire being looped to enable them to be secured between the limbs of the members K, K' by means of screws L, L' and wing-nuts k, k<1>. Stops M, M<1> in the form of angle brackets, are secured to plates m<1> on the fixed slat at the inner end of the frame B, and have secured to their inner faces a slat m<2> of wood, marble &c. The mounting of the slats and the stops is adjustable by means of slotted hcles in the limbs of the members M, M'. Plates are secured to one of the removable slats b to enable the stops M, M<1> to be transferred to that slat, and angle bracket stops N, N<1> are also provided on two removable slats. Similar stops are fitted on the frame B'. The backward movement of the hinged frames is limited by stops S. A third hinged frame mounted at right angles to the other frames and provided with removable wires, may be employed to subdivide further the butter &c. blocks, or the second main frame may, as shown in Fig. 1, be provided with an adjustably mounted transverse cutting-wire D<2>.
