[Class 35] A rotary transformer of the metadyne type transforming continuous-current at constant voltage into a constant continuous-current has a single rotor winding 7 connected to two commutators 8, 9, the primary brushes 3, 4 and secondary brushes 5, 6 being arranged so that the brush 3 on one commutator connected to the point of highest potential is followed in the direction of rotation by a brush 5 or 6, Fig. 1, or 6, Fig. 5, which is associated with the other commutator. One primary brush may be associated with one commutator and the other primary brush and the two secondary brushes with the other commutator. The load, comprising a motor or two motors 10, 11 in series may be connected across the secondary brushes 5, 6 as shown in Fig. 1. The fields 17, 18 of the motors are separately excited from an exciter 19. If the load is divisible into two substantially similar groups, one group of motors 10 may be con. nected across the brushes 3, 5 and the other 11 across the brushes 4, 6, as shown in Fig. 5, additional series field windings being provided on the motors in this case. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the secondary brush 5 and the high potential primary brush 3 are associated with the same commutator.
