Abstract

Glucosides of higher aliphatic alcohols are prepared by heating penta-acyl-hexoses with aliphatic alcohols containing at least six carbon atoms in the presence of acid condensing agents and splitting off the acyl groups from the reaction products. According to the example, penta-acetyl-glucose is heated with lauryl alcohol in the presence of zinc chloride and the product saponified with alcoholic potash lye. The glucosides, in view of their surface active properties, may be used, as such or after sulphonation or phosphatization, as textile adjuvants.
