Abstract

Soda, resin, and casein are treated with boiling water until the mass has acquired the consistency of soft soap whereupon it is cooled. Pressure above atmospheric may be employed. The saponified casein is employed for degumming and decolourizing fibres and tow. In an example, a solution of 80 parts of Solvay soda is heated with 80 parts of resin and 250--300 parts of commercial casein added.ALSO:Casein is saponified by treating it with soda, resin, and boiling water until it acquires the consistency of soft soap. An example is given.
