Abstract

Mono- and diglycerides are prepared by reacting a triglyceride with glycerin at 140 to 205 DEG C. in the presence of an alcoholate of an alkali metal. Suitable alcohates include sodium glyceroxide, potassium alcoholates and alcoholates prepared from ethyl alcohol. In examples, sodium is dissolved in glycerin and the solution is reacted with hydrogenated cottonseed oil. The products may be used as emulsifying agents for mixtures of fatty or mineral oils with water in the production, for example, of cosmetics. Specifications 412,766 and 421,284 are referred to.ALSO:Mono- or di-glycerides, prepared by reacting a triglyceride, for instance hydrogenated cotton-seed oil, with glycerine, are employable for emulsifying fatty or minerals oils with water.
