Abstract
421,074. Machinery guards. KENRICK & JEFFERSON, Ltd., and GIFFORD, R. D., High Street, West Bromwich. July 26, 1933, Nos. 21041 and 31466. [Class 80 (iv)] A guard for a guillotine comprises a bar or bars 5 carried by arms 4 which are moved up to and away from the blade 6 by means of linkwork operated by a roller 13 and cam guide 17. A shaft 3 on which the arms 4 are mounted is carried by adjustable brackets 2 and is oscillated by a rod 8 pivoted to a yoke piece 9 carrying the roller 13. In view of the inclined motion of the knife and the shape of the cam 17 the guard is only moved when the roller is in the horizontal portion 16 of the cam, i.e., when the knife is near its highest position, so that the guard is moved to guarding position early in the down-stroke, and withdrawn late in the upstroke. The yoke is connected by an adjustable link 10 with the end of a rod 11 bolted to the frame of the machine. In a modified construction, Fig. 4, the arms 4 are loose on the shaft 3 and are connected with short arms 19 fast on the shaft by spring clips 20. This device allows of the yielding of the guard if obstructed.
