Abstract

505,788. Peaping-machines. BAMFORD, C. J., and BAMFORD, H. V. Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32309. [Class 6 (iii)] The hinged bar 20 carrying the knife bar of a mowing machine is lifted by a link or chain 19 by which it is connected to an arm 18 projecting from a lifting shaft 16 which has 'rigidly secured thereto a second arm 21 ; this arm 21 has a link 27 pivoted. on its outer end, the link in turn being connected by a link 22 to an operating lever 10. The joint between the links 27 and 22 is guided in its movement when the bar is lifted or lowered by a link 23 which extends to a piyot 24 on a bracket depending from the main frame. In a modification, this guide link is replaced by a cam guide for a roller on the joint. A spring 29 is provided to assist the lifting. The spring may be sufficiently strong to maintain the bar in raised position or the link 27 may be moved past its dead centre for this purpose. The link 22 may be formed as a coiled spring or may incorporate a coiled spring. Specification 408,427 is referred to.
