Abstract

653,866. Machinery guards. BRITISH 'TRANSPORT COMMISSION, and DENNIS, H. A. July 15, 1948, No. 19018. [Class 80(iv)] A guard for sewing machines, applied to a Brehmer book stitching machine, comprises a fingerplate 3 hinged on a rod 7 carried by two members 1, 2, which are pivoted by screws 5 to the oscillating pusher bar 4 of the machine. The members 1, 2 may be connected by rods 13 and a panel of transparent material. The guard is associated with trip mechanism arranged to disconnect the drive to and brake the machine upon inwardly pivotal or upwardly bodily movement of the plate 3. An arm 8 on the fingerplate is linked to a bell crank lever 10 carrying a projecting member 11. The member 11 engages a plate 18 carried by a rocker arm arranged to move a lever passing under the trip key of a vertical plunger 23. The plunger is connected to a bell crank lever 26 linked to the safety stop pawl 30 of the machine. The normal settings of the trip key and of the fingerplate with respect to the members 1, 2 of the guard, are adjustable by means of screws, as at 38.
