Abstract

616,467. Machinery guards. HALL, H., and SESSIONS, Ltd., W. Sept. 4, 1946, No. 26599. [Class 80 (iv)] A guillotine, punching or like machine has an auxiliary guard which drops into a guarding position if the main guard is moved from its operative position. As shown, a main guard 10 has a depending pivoted extension 13, and is carried on rollers 23 sliding in guides 24 in side members 25. The side arms 12 of the guard 10 are pivoted at 16 to levers 17 pivoted at 18 on the machine base 29. Links 20 connect the levers 17 to the reciprocating head 22 of the machine, to close the guard as the head descends. The side members 25 are pivoted to the machine base 29 at 26, and have vertical extensions 37 upon which rests an auxiliary guard 30 of lightweight material such as canvas, vertically slidable on guide rods 34. Should the operator lift the main guard 10 whilst the machine is in motion, the members 25 will pivot about 26 to release the supported ends 35 of the guard 30 and allow it to fall into guarding position.
