[Class 83 (iv)] In a machine for shearing moving bars, cutters m are oscillated about pivots p by quadrants f in a crescent-shaped path. The quadrants are driven by a cam k through a link g adjustable in length for varying the stroke of oscillation. The pivots p are mounted on arms r on powerdriven shafts a connected by gearing q. The cam k has concentric parts causing stationary periods of the link g during which it can be uncoupled &c. from the quadrants, by a clutch, in cutting long lengths.
