Abstract

420,327. Backrests for chairs. PARKES, S. R., Pretoria Works, New Road, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23346. [Class 52 (ii)] A back rest for a chair, &c., comprises a curved back member 1 fitted with shaped pivot pins adapted to swivel in the open ends 6 of a tubular frame 2 which is arranged for attachment to and adjustment on a seat base. The back member 1 may comprise a curved metal strip adapted to receive a wooden padded or other back rest, with ends 1<a> turned at right angles and fitted with shaped pivot pins pointing inwardly. The frame 2 may comprise a piece of tubing bent to form a base with parallel portions 5, and upstanding arms with ends 6 turned outwardly to engage the pivot pins of the back rest. The base parts 5 may be adjustably secured under the seat by means of clips.
