420,154. Illuminated signs; decorative lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WINSTANLEY, F., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. May 18, 1933, No. 14401. [Class 3 (ii)] In an edge-illuminated sign or decorative lighting-fitting of the kind wherein light from the light source in addition to that passing through the edge of the plate, reaches the observer, a colour filter is provided on or adjacent to the edge of the plate so that light entering the plate traverses the filter in passing from the source to the edge, while light received by the observer without having passed through the plate does not pass through the said filter. Fig. 1 shows a lighting-fitting illuminated by an incandescent lamp 1, which comprises opaque or translucent discs 2, 3 and a disc 5 of frosted or satin-finished glass having its edge 9 coated with a coloured film. A colour filter may also be applied to the edge 10 of the disc 2 if this is translucent. Fig. 2 shows another fitting in which a plate 2 of clear glass with a decorative pattern 3 etched thereon is illuminated by a discharge tube or other lamp 1, a colour filter being applied to the edge 4. British Specification 403,079 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to U.S.A. Specification 1,840,325.
