420,093. Printing-machines. IMPEY, F. L., and KALAMAZOO - PRINT, Ltd., Kalamazoo Works, Northfield, Birmingham. May 25, 1933, No. 15166. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking-apparatus; damping-apparatus for lithographic mach ines.-In a rotary lithographic offset printing-machine, a forme-damping roller is pivotally connected to a movable inking roller frame in sucl a manner that upor movement of the frame to move the inking and damping rollers into contact with the forme cylinder, the damping roller engages and moves over a portion of the cylinder before contact of the inking-roller takes place, and, upon movement of the frame in the opposite direction, the damping roller moves out of contact with the cylinder after the inking-roller. The damping roller 2 is mounted in a frame 3 connected by a pivot 9 to a frame 4 carrying inking-rollers 5, 6, 7 and pivoted about the axis of the roller 6. A pin 10 carried by the frame 3 engages a slot 10<a> in the frame 4. Upon movement of the frame 4 in an anti-clockwise direction, the roller 7 moves immediately away from the forme cylinder 14, but the roller 2 remains in contact with the cylinder until the pin 10 reaches the upper end of the slot 10<a>. The frame 4, with the rollers 5, 7 and frame 3 may be lifted bodily from the roller 6 to give ready access to the cylinder 14.
