Inking-apparatus.-An inking-attachment for rotary printing-machines, particularly duplicating machines printing from type, is provided with mechanism by which all the inking-rollers are separated from one another when the impression roller is moved out of contact with the printing- cylinder. Improved means are also provided to secure the attachment to the machine. The inking-mechanism comprises forme-inking rollers 41, 42, distributing-rollers 23, 24, 25, a messenger roller 26, and a duct roller 27 mounted in side frames 46 pivoted on projections 47 on the base of the machine. Arranged beneath the ends of the spindles of the rollers 23, 24. 25 are two members 20 fixed to a cross shaft 21 and to one of these members is pivoted a plunger 17, the end of which is held by a spring 18 in engagement with an arm 14<1> carried by the pivoted bearing 13 of the impression roller 12. Upon moving the roller 12 out of contact with the printing-cylinder 11 by operating a lever 16, the plunger 17 moves downwardly and the members 20 lift the rollers 23, 24, 25 out of contact with each other and with the rollers 41, 42. At the same time, a rack 34, connected to one of the members 20, and engaging gears 36, 37 on bushes in which the spindles of the gelatine rollers 41, 42 are eccentrically mounted, is operated to turn the bushes and thereby move the rollers out of contact with the printing cylinder 11. The duct 30 is mounted on a pivot. 31 and is normally supported by a pin 32 resting on a projection 33 on the plunger 17, but when the plunger is lowered, the duct drops so that its roller 27 is out of contact with the transfer roller 26. The frames 46 are secured to the main frame of the machine bv pivoted catches 43 having two hook portions 44, 44a adapted to engage fixed pins 45, whereby the attachment may be held in the operative position shown, or in a retracted position to allow the machine to be used with an ink-ribbon.
