Abstract

219,161. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Dalby, W. E. July 5, 1923. Inking-apparatus; damping-apparatus for lithographic and like machines.-Inking or damping apparatus for rotary printing presses having forme inking &c. rollers normally in contact with a plate cylinder and with distributor drums, is provided with mechanism adapted to trip the forme rollers out of contact alternatively with either the plate cylinder only or out of contact with both the plate cylinder and the distributor drums. The tripping mechanism may also be adapted to move the distributor rollers out of contact with the distributor drums when the forme rollers are moved out of contact with both plate cylinder and distributor drums. The forme rollers 16 - - 19 are supported in bearings on plates 8, 9, 12, 13 adapted to rock about pivots 10, 11, 14, the plates 8, 9 being geared to the others and connected to arms 6, 7 on levers 5 adapted to rock on the shaft 2<a> of the plate cylinder 2. The levers 5 are connected by links 4 to arms 1 fast on the ends of a shaft 3, and one of the arms 1 is connected by a link 20 to the operating lever 21, which is provided with projections 22 contacting with adjustable stops 23 when the lever is in the two-terminal position and with a spring bolt 24 engaging a socket 25 when the lever is in mid position. Movement of the Lever 21 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to. vertical position lifts the forme rollers 16 - - 19 out of contact with the plate cylinder 2, and. further movement of the lever 21 over to the left lifts the forme rollers out of contact with the distributing drums 26, 27 also. The plate 8 has an extension arm 28 connected by a pin and slot. to a link 29 pivoted to an arm 30 of a plate 32 pivoted at 31 and supporting a distributing roller- 33. Two other plates 35, 38, pivoted at 37, 39 and geared together, support two other distributing rollers 36, 40, the plate 35 being connected by a link 34 to the plate 32. Movement of the lever 21 to the vertical position is without effect on the distributing rollers 33, 36, 40 by reason of the slotted connection of the arm 28 with the link 29, but further movement of the lever 21 to the left lifts these rollers out of contact with the distributing drums 26, 27, 41, 42.
