Abstract

154,701. Bosc, L. P. Sept. 2, 1919. Inking-apparatus. - An internal inking-apparatus for rotary duplicators of the kind described in Specification 119/09 in which the duct and its roller are movable so that the roller applies the ink directly to the printing- cylinder, or indirectly through co-operation with another roll with which it is brought into contact by the operation of an external lever fitted with a pointer moving over a graduated scale is constructed with a distributing roller of spongy ma- .terial arranged in front of the indirect inking-roller. The apparatus is formed with a pair of vertical plates as 4 for receiving pins which co-operate with recessed guides 11, 12 fixed to a platform 10 upon which the duct can move horizontally on wheels 20, 21, constrained by angle-iron guides 19. The plates 4 are connected by cross-bars 7, 8, 9, and together form a frame which is fixed to a hollow axle 2 upon which the stencil drum 1 rotates. The movement of the ink-duct is controlled 'by a lever 29 on a shaft 28 mounted in the hollow axle 2, and this lever raises and lowers the platform 10, by means of links 26, 25, and as the duct moves vertically it is compelled to move horizontally also by the engagement of pins 24 in diagonal slots 23 in the plates 4. The lever 29 is fitted with a pointer 31 and locking-stud 32, the pointer moving over a scale 31. In the position of the duct and roller 30 shown in Fig. 1, the amount of ink supplied varies with the pressure of the roller 30 on the d'rum, and this is controlled by the lever 29. When the lever 29 is moved to bring the roller 30 into contact with an ink-applying roller 38, mounted in spring-controlled arms 39 governed by adjusting screws 42, the pressure of the roller 30 on the roller 38 is also governed by the lever 29, but in this case the ink supplied varies inversely as the pressure. To effect this, pressure pins 46 on the duct are received between arms 44, 45, on a ring carried by the shaft 28, and the arm 45 presses on the studs and with the desired pressure, and the ink is distributed by a roller 48 of spongy material. In the intermediate position of the lever 29, the roller 38 may be used to remove ink from the cylinder 1. This is effected by a pivoted scraper 56 which is normally out of contact with the roller 38, but can be caused to engage the same by means of cam-controlled hooks 59 in front of the duct. The roller 30 is fitted with an adjustable scraper 34, controlled by a spring 37. The ink is distributed by spring- mounted rolls 48, 51 connected by a link 54, and so arranged that if one is operative the other is inoperative. The cylinder is preferably fitted with two circumferential angle-bars which facilitate the removal of the ink by tending to form a pool which can be taken up easily by the roller 48 of spongy material. The lever 29 may be duplicated on the other side of the machine, each end of the duct being thus independently adjustable.
