Abstract

252,927. Storey, W. H. July 17, 1925. Addition to 239,638. Inking - apparatus. - The inking- attachment for rotary printing- machines described in the parent Specification is provided with means whereby the inking-rollers can be moved into contact with one another for initial inking up while the impression roller and forme-inking rollers remain out of contact with the forme roller. As in the parent Specification, the spindles of the distributing-rollers 23 - - 25 rest on members 20 fixed to a pivot shaft 21, and to one of the members 20 is pivoted a plunger 17, the end of which is held by a spring 18 in engagement with an arm 14<1> carried by the pivoted bearing of the impression roller 12. Upon moving the roller 12 out of contact with the printing-cylinder 11 by operating a lever 16, the plunger moves downwardlv and the members 20 lift the rollers 23, 24, 25 out of contact with each other and with the forme-inking rollers 41, 42. At the same time a rack 34, connected to one of the members 20 and engaging gears 36, 37 on bushes in which the spindles of the rollers 41, 42 are eccentrically mounted, is operated to turn the bushes and thereby move the rollers out of contact with the cylinder 11. According to the invention, a pinion mounted in one of the members 20 and gearing with the rack 34 is provided with an operating handle 20g normally held in the position shown by a spring plunger 51 engaging a hole 53 in the member 20. By releasing the plunger and turning the handle through about 180‹ the rack is moved upwardly until arrested by a stop 56 and the pinion rolls on the rack, lowering the members 20 to bring the rollers 23, 24, 25 into engagement with each other and with the rollers 41, 42 and to bring the roller 25 into the path of movement of the transfer roller 26. At the same time the plunger 17 is raised and lifts the ductor so that its roller 27 is also in the path of the roller 26 and a pin upon the member 20 may be caused to close a switch to start the driving motor of the machine. The handle 20<g> is held in this position by the plunger 51 engaging a second hole 53a in the member 20.
