Convention date, Dec. 9, 1932. [Class 35.] Exciting.-Relates to exciters for generators driven by internal-combustion engines designed to produce an excitation voltage so related to the current that the energy-output is the same for all currents while the speed of rotation is constant, and consists in forming the exciter as a split-pole generator in which both halves of each pole carry a constant-current winding and one half a winding in series with the armature of the generator. In the arrangement shown the pole-halves O<1>, O<2>, P<1>, P<2> carry windings excited by the battery l and the halves P<1>, P<2> also carry windings in series with the armature d of the main generator. The windings on each of the pole halves P<1>, P<2> oppose each other and they may balance at the commencement of the working range. The generator may have an additional series winding s, the current in which may be reversed or short-circuited by a switch t.
