[Class 44.] In a combined door fastening and antirattling device, a vertically sliding latch bolt f engages with a hole in a projection which is mounted on the door post and is of dovetail form to fit into a corresponding recess e in the latch casing c ; the projection may be mounted by resilient means as described in Specification 343,343 and may be provided with a safety notch adapted to be engaged by the latch when the door is not fully closed. The bolt head may be of conical, pyramidal or usual shape and the casing c may be mounted on the face of the door, let in flush with the face or mortised into the edge of the door. In one form, Fig. 3, the latch f can be withdrawn against a spring g<2> by a follower arm j<1> cooperating with a projection g<3> thereon ; the follower is turned by a handle spindle i or by a handle near the middle of the door coupled to the follower by a link p'. The follower may be notched at k<1> to co-operate with a pin k<2> on a link l connected at its lower end to a bolt engaging with a conical projection on the door post. The spring g<2> is mounted on a tail rod g<1> of the bolt and abuts at its ends against the projection g<3> on the bolt and a lug c<4> on the casing c. In another form, Fig. 7, the bolt consists of a vertical portion f<1> connected to a vertical tail rod g<1> by a horizontal portion f<2> and can be withdrawn against a spring g<2> by a follower arm j<1> acting through a stirrup v normally pressed upwards by a spring w bearing against a pin v<1> thereon. The spring g<2> is mounted on the tail rod g<1> and abuts at its lower end against a lug on the casing and at its upper end against a sleeve u on the tail rod. The bolt of a bottom lock y, similar except for the omission of the follower and the stirrup, may be connected to the stirrup v by a rod x or the stirrup of a top lock, similar except for the omission of the follower, may be connected to the upper end of the sleeve u by a rod.
