Abstract

419,593. Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces. PATTISON, C. M., and AUTOCONTROL BOILERS, Ltd., Victoria Station House, London. Feb. 13, 1933, No. 1241. [Class 51 (i).] A steam or hot water boiler 6 is provided with a firebox 5 on the imperforate bottom of which is arranged a mass of loose refractory material 8 adapted to be heated by a combustible mixture of gas or vapour and air drawn into the firebox at 9 by a fan 17 which is arranged at the outlet ends of the lowermost group or groups of boiler tubes 2 through which the gases pass in succession. The firebox and boiler tubes are surrounded by water and a feedwater heater 30 is arranged between the boiler tubes and fan. A modification is shown in Fig. 3 wherein the boiler 28 contains a number of fireboxes 20-23, each connected to groups of tubes 24-27 below. The supply of fuel and air may be controlled by means of the kind described in Specification 398,494, [Group XI], or by the pressure or water level in the boiler.
