Abstract
380,362. Internally-fired boilers. FELL, C. A., Spring Bank, Etwall, near Derby. Feb. 27, 1932, No. 5875. [Class 64 (i).] A boiler for hot water or steam has an annular combustion chamber f extending nearly to the top of the water tank d and divided medially by a cylindrical baffle plate g so that the hot gases pass up over it and down round the bottom and up the outside and round the top of the tank to a chimney. The outer wall of the flue passage forms the inner wall of the air inlet m, air being preheated in a passage o, which with the plate g is continued to the base of the boiler, the air then entering the furnace by holes n. Fuel is fed to the boiler through apertures j, c. The grate has a dead plate i and may be vertically adjusted, and shaken or rotated to remove ash. Water is fed and withdrawn by pipes e or e<1>. Combustion may be regulated by thermostats controlling a damper in the chimney or a supplementary supply of cold air.
