invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Gas-Heated Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boilers for heating water or generating steam, and relates particularly to boilers in which gas or a gaseous mixture is utilized as fuel for the heating medium, and it is the object of the inventlon to provide a boiler of this character which is small and compact in structure,
cheap to manufacture and eflicient in opera tion.

In carrying out the invention there is provided a water chamber 5, shown as circular in shape, to constitute the .base of the boiler having a water supply inlet 5 which may also be connected in circuit with and serve as the return in a water or steam circulating system. The chamber has an anwith a water or steam circulating system.
The water jacket engages between ledges or annular ribs 10 extending up from the water chamber 5 and a suitable material may be placed therein to maintain a substantially air tight seal or joint between the jacket and chamber. The water chamber 5 and jacket'cooperate to provide or form a chamber 11 for the combustion of fuel, such as gas or a gaseous mixture.
A gas burner 12, which is in the nature of a Bunsen burner having a single outlet directed to the top of the water jacket .is located in the combustion chamber. The burner is connected to a source of gas supply by a pipe 13 and the flow of gas is controlled by a valve 14. Interposed between the valve and the burner is an air and gas mixing chamber 15 having circumferentially disposed air inlets 16, the opening and closing of which air inlets is controlled by a sleeve 17 slidably mounted upon the chamher, and the opening and closing of the air 1nlets is regulated by and in accordance with the flow of gas to at all times provide a proper combustible mixture by connecting the sleeve 17 to the valve 14 by a link 18. Simultaneously with the opening and closing movements of the valve to turn on and shut off the supply of gas movement is imparted to the sleeve 17 and the inlets 16 opened and closed by and in accordance with the movement of the valve 14.
To draw. off the products of combustion from the combustion chamber 11 the water chamber 5 has a central opening with a plate 18' secured to the bottom of said chamber with a central opening 19 to provide a chamber 20 connected to the combustion chamber 11 by circumferentially disposed openings 21 in' the water chamber 5, which are in the nature of flues extending down through the water chamber and communicating with the chamber 20. The
opening 19 in the plate 18 serves as the outlet for the chamber 20 and is adapted to be connected to a flue or chimney by a pipe 22. By this construction the products of combustion being drawn through the water chamber serve to heat the water in said chamber. A bafiie in the form of an annular flange 23 extending upward around the opening 19 is provided to cause the products of combustion to pass up into the chamber 20 after entering through the flues 21 and prevent the too rapid drawing off of the same. To provide a secondary air supply to the burning fuel or gases in the combustion chamber the water chamber 5 has an opening 23 in the top thereof and preferably below the burner to which is connected an air inlet pipe 24 extending through the chamber 20. By passing this pipe through the air chamber it will serve to permit the incoming air to be heated or warmed and thereby faciltate the mixing ofrsuch secondary air and the combustion thereof with the combustible mixture at the burner. secondary air-inlet pipe may be provided with a valve, shown as a shutter 25 to regulate the flow of the air therethrough.
In the construction shown in Fig. 2 a chamber 26, which is in the nature of a water pocket, is suspended from the top of the water jacket 8 above the burner, this pocket being connected adjacent the bottom with the water jacket at a point below the outlet 8, as shown at 27, and has an outlet 28 to the water jacket in line with the outlet 8 of the jacket. This pocket faciltates the heating of the water and tends to induce a circulation of the water. A heat retaining jacket 29 of suitable material, such as asbestos, extends around the Water jacket or dome and the sides of the water chamber 5.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: j
1. A boiler comprising a Water carrying base having a water inlet; a dome shaped water jacket connected in Water circulation with the base to provide a combustion chamber between the base and the jacket; a Water outlet in the top of said acket; a gas burner Within the combustion chamber; a cone shaped opening through the base and connected to a flue; a series of passages through the base leading to said opening for the passage of the products of combustion through the opening to the flue; baflles between said opening and the flue; and an air inlet pipe to the combustion chamber extending through the opening in the base for the purpose specified.
2. A boiler comprising a water carrying base having a water inlet; a dome shaped water jacket connected in water circulation with the base to provide a combustion chamber between the base and dome; a water outlet; from the acket; a gas burner within the combustion chamber; and air inlet centrally of the base to the combustion chamber; a series of passages through the base adapted to be connected to a flue for the passage of the products of combustion'from the combustion chamber; and an auxiliary water chamber suspended in the combustion chamber above the burner having a water inlet from the jacket and an outlet to the jacket inline with the outlet of the jacket for the purpose specified. 3. In a boiler, a water carrying base having a water inlet; a dome shaped water The jacket supported by and connected in water circulation with the base to provide a combustion chamber between the base and jacket, and said base arranged with passages 'therethrough adapted to be connected to a flue for the passage of the products of combustion from the combustion chamber; a water outlet from the jacket; and means to induce the flow of Water through the base and jacket, comprising an auxiliary water chamber of small capacity suspended in the combustion chamber having a waterinlet fromthe jacket and a water outlet to the jacket in line with the outlet of the jacket.
4:. A boiler comprising a 'circular water chamber having a water inlet; a dome shaped water jacket connected to the circular ,water chamber to provide a combustion chamber between the circular water chamber and the jacket; an outlet in the top of said jacket ;.a gas burner within the combustion chamber; an air inlet centrally of the Water chamber to the combustion chamber; a chamber in the water chamber having an outlet in the bottom adapted to be connected to a flue; circumferentially disposed openings extending from the combustion chamber down through the water chamber to the chamber therein connected to the flue; a baffle between the outlet of said chamber connected to the flue and the openings thereto leading from the combustion chamber; and a heat retaining jacket extending around the Water jacket and the sides of the water chamber.
5. Aboiler comprising a circular water chamber having a water inlet; a dome shaped water jacket connected to the circular water chamber to provide a combustion chamber between the circular water chamber and the water jacket; an outlet centrally in the top of the water jacket; a gas burner in the combustion chamber; a water pocket suspended centrally from the top of the water jacket into the combustion chamber and above the gas burner, said pocket having a water inlet to adjacent the bottom thereof from the water jacket from a'point below the outlet of the jacket,and
having an outlet into the water jacket in. line with the outlet of the water jacket; an
