419,563. Bomb - dropping apparatus. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G., and LLOYD, J., Whitley, Coventry. Nov. 8, 1933, No. 31068. [Class 9 (ii).] An apparatus for dropping bombs from aircraft is provided with a radius rod 19 engaging the bomb 12 near its centre of mass, for example by means of a fork 18 on the rod and a pin 16 on the bomb, and pivoted to the aircraft at a point 23 forwardly of and above the centre of mass of the bomb, so that when the bomb is released it is guided out clear of the propeller 14 or other part of the aircraft as shown in dot and dash lines. In a modification, two radius rods are used one engaging the bomb rearwardly of its centre of mass and the other forwardly, and these two radius rods are interconnected by a link forming a parallel motion device ensuring the simultaneous movement of both rods. In both arrangements, the radius rods are preferably duplicated to engage the bomb on both sides. The recess in which the bomb is located may be closed by a door 15 arranged as described in Specification 416,884.
