Abstract
763,581. Canopy and seat ejection apparatus for aircraft. MARTIN, J. and MARTINBAKER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. April 15, 1955, No.21573/55. Divided out of 763,580. Class 4. Apparatus for providing a time delay between the operation of a canopy release and ejection mechanism and a seat ejecting mechanism on aircraft comprises a bifurcated cable 60, 61 operated by an airman by the movement of a face protection screen, the cable 60 being connected by a loop 71 to a pivoted lever 68 formed with a tail to displace a roller 69 on a second lever 66 fast with a shaft 65. The roller 69, in the position shown in Fig. 4, prevents upward movement of a spring- loaded plunger 62 formed with a rack to engage with one pinion of a train of gears 63 constructed as a time delay mechanism. A further lever 67 fast with shaft 65 is connected by an articulated link 73 to a sear 74 for cocking an ejection gun for the seat. Another sear 77, for cocking a gun 75 for the release and ejection of the canopy, is connected to the cable 61 and a cable 72, which may be used when it is desired to jettison the canopy without ejection of the seat. Movement of the face screen simultaneously fires the gun 75 and sets in motion the time delay mechanism which subsequently, through the linkage 66, 67 and 73 withdraws sear 74 and fires the seat ejection gun. The apparatus is cocked by a key inserted in an aperture 65a in one end of the shaft 65.
