2 Claims. (CI. 42-42) This invention relates to double trigger firearms and is directed more particularly to operating mechanism for the triggers of double barrel shot guns.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of operating mechanism associated with the triggers of a double barrel shot gun which is constructed and ar ranged for pulling the triggers independently and in quick succession.
In firing both barrels of a shot gun there being a trigger for each barrel, it is ditficult to move the finger from one to the other trigger, without affecting the aim.
Frequently it is desired and necessary to fire one barrel quickly after the other. To accomplish this the trigger finger must be moved from one to the other trigger which is time consuming and objectionable.
According to this invention an actuator is provided for the trigger finger so that shifting of the finger from one trigger to another trigger is eliminated and the actuator operates through mechanism for pulling the triggers in rapid succession.
Various changes may be made in the mechanism of the invention which for purposes of disclosure is shown in the present preferred form wherein:
Fig. 1 is an elevational View of adjacent stock and receiver portions of a double barrel shot gun and having the novel features of the invention associated therewith;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the drop link of the operating mechanism for the triggers;
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the actuator of the mechanism; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings in detail the invention will be more fully described.
Adjacent portions of the stock 2 and receiver 4 of a double barrel shot gun are shown in Fig. 1. The usual top lever is shown at 6 and a trigger guard 8 is shown which is secured to the underside of the stock in the usual manner.
Forward and rear or aft triggers 12 and 14 usual in shot- 1 guns depend from the stock into the trigger guard, and are actuated by the mechanism of the invention.
A block 16 is secured to the trigger guard by any suitable means, such as by screws 18 shown, so as to be integral therewith.
An actuator 20 which is channel shape in cross section is provided with ears 22 at opposite sides of the block. A pivot pin 24 pivotally connects the actuator 20 to the block for swinging in opposite directions. The forward face of the actuator is curved as shown in Fig. l for the trigger finger.
The trigger 14 lies behind the actuator 20 as shown in Fig. 1. With the trigger finger pressing on the upper portion of the actuator, the upper portion thereof bears on a 2.191.05 Patented May 7,1957

The actuator 20 and drop link 26 pivoted, as shown, are pivotally connected to the trigger guard.
A trigger link 30 more or less channel shape in cross section is pivotally connected at 32 to the lower end of the drop link 26. The lower end of the forward trigger 12 carries a pin 34 and the sides 31 of the forward end of the link 30 are slotted as shown, to receive the said pin 34.
Rearward movement of the link 30 acts to pull the trigger 12 rearwardly for firing a barrel of the shotgun.
The lower end 21 of the actuator 20 is adapted to engage the lower end of the link 26 so as to pull the link 30 rearwardly when the actuator is swung clockwise.
Thus the actuator 20 to be engaged by the trigger finger is pivotally connected to the trigger guard for swinging by said finger.
With the trigger finger pressing clockwise on the lower port-ion of the actuator 20 the lower end thereof acts on the lower end of the drop link to pull trigger link 30 and the trigger 12.
The trigger finger may slide quickly upwardly and press against the upper portion of the actuator to swing it counterclockwise so that it acts on to pull the aft trigger 14.
The triggers may be pulled in rapid succession by simply moving the trigger finger from the lower end to the upper end of the actuator 20 or vice versa. Movement of the trigger finger up or down on the actuator brings about swinging of the actuator according to the direction of movement of the finger.
The mechanism may be changed or modified without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the accompanying claims.
It is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States the following:
1. The combination with the forward and aft triggers of a double barrel shotgun depending from the stock into the trigger guard thereof of mechanism for selectively pulling said triggers comprising, a trigger link having a forward end pivotally connected to said forward trigger, a. drop link pivotally connected at its upper end to a rear portion of said trigger guard and having a portion depending from said pivotal connection, pivotal connections between the lower end of said drop link and rear end of said trigger link whereby clockwise swinging of said drop link acts through the trigger link to pull said forward trigger, an actuator disposed forwardly of said aft trigger pivotally connected to said trigger guard for swinging in clockwise and counterclockwise directions and having a lower portion for engaging and actuating said drop link on swinging in clockwise direction and an upper portion for engaging and pulling said aft trigger on swinging in counterclockwise direction.
2. The combination with the forward and aft triggers of a double barrel shotgun depending from the stock into the trigger guard thereof of mechanism for selectively pulling said triggers comprising, a block secured to the upper rear portion of said trigger guard, an elongated trigger link pivotally connected at its forward end to the lower outer end portion of said forward trigger and extending rearwardly therefrom, an elongated drop link disposed rearwardly of said aft trigger pivotally connected at its upper end to said block and depending therefrom swung cloc wis t nga a d-tact on vsaid mplink fo pulling said forward trigger.
