Abstract

1,271,842. Guns. TAMPELLA A.B. OY. 14 May, 1969 [18 May, 1968], No. 24490/69. Heading F3C. A gun comprises a barrel and a breech mechanism which includes a breech piece 9 of the barrel and a wedge breech block 2 transversely slidable in the breech piece 9 and a firing mechanism including a trigger arrangement (8, Fig. 4, not shown) with a striking pin mechanism 7 is provided in the breech piece 9, block 2. The breech block 2 is formed with a housing 10 for a detonator cartridge and a firing channel 11 coaxial with the housing 10, their axes being inclined to the axis of the barrel 1. In the construction shown the striker pin mechanism 7 includes a striker pin spring loaded towards the housing 10 and surrounded by a spring loaded sleeve. The rear end of the striker pin is bifurcated and a cam is mounted between the two limbs thereof. A pawl 23 pivotally mounted in a trigger lever 22 co-operates with the cam and a roller of the trigger lever 22 engages an extension of the sleeve such that on movement of the trigger lever 22 the striker pin is retracted and the sleeve urged forwardly by the roller until such time as the roller disengages the extension of the sleeve. A rotatably mounted intermediate piece 13 is interposed between the striker pin mechanism 7 and a surface 12 of the breech block 2 adjacent the housing 10. The piece 13 is automatically actuated on movement of the breech block 2 by a rack 32 limitedly movable in the breech block and co-operating with a pinion attached to the shaft 29 of the piece. The shaft 29 is also provided with a cam 35 which co-operates on rotation of the shaft 29 with a counter cam on a spring loaded rod to actuate the detonator ejecting mechanism (Figs. 6, 7, not shown). The piece 13 also possesses a roller which in association with two surfaces on a spring loaded ram latches the piece in its operative and inoperative positions (Fig. 5, not shown). The latching mechanism may be a spring loaded over-centre device (Fig. 8, not shown) and the ejector in this case is mounted in the intermediate piece 13.
