317,841. Soc. Anon. des Ateliers d'Aviation L. Breguet. Aug. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Controlling.-An aeroplane is provided with two or more narrow planes, above the main plane, which are maintained automatically at a lesser angle of incidence than the main planes as the latter approach the stalling angle, provision being made for differential movement of the narrow planes for lateral balancing. Fig. 3 shows one form in which a central narrow plane P is maintained at a normal angle of attack by tail planer E, E<1>, and two side sections Pg, Pd are maintained at the required angle by springs rg, rd which are subject to a differential control by the pilot for effecting the lateral balance of the machine. Alternatively, tail planes may be provided on the sections Pg, Pd and the springs rg, rd omitted. The central section P may be omitted. The springs rg, rd couple the outer ends of links 3g, 3d to cams on a lever C pivoted in a fork that can be tilted laterally about an axis Xm, X<1>m. by a lever M<11>, thereby displacing the planes Pg, Pd in opposite directions without interfering with the automatic control of their incidence. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) a machine also is described in which a narrow forwardly staggered plane is placed above the main plane and at large incidences of the main plane is adjusted to smaller relative incidences. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
