[Class 4] In a tandem-wing aeroplane in which two wings of adjustable incidence are disposed behind a propeller and at different levels so that a variable gap is left between the wings, a control device is provided which is adapted to vary the angle of incidence of both wings and which only over part of its operating range reduces the angle of incidence of the rear wing and either increases the angle of incidence of the front wing or leaves it unaffected. As shown, wings 2, 4 are articulated to an aircraft fuselage. The incidence of the wings is simultaneously adjusted from a control 6 through links 10, 11 by means of cam slots. The length of the link 11 is adjustable through screw-and-nut mechanism. In a modification, the rods 10 are guided and the plates 8 are adjustable. Guide rods may replace the slots. In a further modification, the link 11 is adjustable from a control 15, Fig. 10, and is connected by a link 14 to the rod 10. The above controls may be combined with gear sectors 17, 18 such that transverse movement of the control 6 effects differential movement of the wings on either side of the aircraft and in this case transverse movement of the control adjusts, in addition, through a cam slot 21 a rudder 20. The control member is arranged, when moved forwardly or rearwardly from its mid-position to initially reduce or increase the incidence of the front wing leaving the incidence of the rear wing substantially unaffected, when moved further towards the rear to decrease simultaneously the incidence of both wings and when moved further forward to increase the incidence of the front wing and reduce that of the rear wing.
