419,501. Cigarette-making machines. UNIVERSELLE CIGARETTEN MASCHINEN. FABRIK J. C. MULLER & CO., 48, Zwickauerstrasse, Dresden, Germany. Feb. 27, 1934, No. 6350. Convention date, Jan. 24. [Class 130.] In a tobacco feed for continuous-rod machines, the conveyer device beneath the shoot 5 of the tobacco spreader consists partly of the cigarette paper strip 25, which conducts the tobacco rod direct to the former, and partly of a guide 24 which collects tobacco into a coherent rod and delivers it to the strip 25. As shown, the guide 24 is a trough of U-shaped section, through which travels an endless belt 10 running over rollers 11, 12 and a tension roller 13. The roller 11 is driven from a shaft 16 through bevel and sprocket gearing 17, 18, 22. The cigarette paper strip 25 travels over a guide roller 27 and a roller 26 driven from the shaft 16 through bevel and spur gearing 29-32. The paper strip 25 passes over the flat bottom of a channel 28 having side cheeks beneath which extend the edges of the strip. The loaded strip passes beneath a shaping roller 36, and through a guide 43 and a former 44, in which the strip travels on an endless band 45. The drive may be adjusted by a speed regulator so that the rod is delivered from the belt 10 to the strip 25 without change of speed. In a modification, the guide 24 is a U-shaped trough without a travelling belt.
