Abstract
419,470. Circular looms. VILLA, J. I., Thistle Cottage, Fairmuir, and MAcEWAN W. R., 249, Strathmartine Road, both in Dundee. May 1, 1934, No. 20901/33. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (ii).] The warp threads, which extend in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of weaving, as described in Specification 336,246, [Class 142 (ii)], are separated and the weft is beaten up by substantially rectangular reeds 32, each corresponding to a pair of healds 18. The reeds are moved vertically by slides 30 guided on rods 31 and carrying rollers 29 resting on a cylindrical cam 27 fast on a tubular drive shaft 12. Shuttle-operating mechanism. Each shuttle 35 is detachably supported on a toothed arcuate carrier 36, which is guided by fixed track members 33 with undercut shoulders 34 accommodated in the sector-shaped spaces between the reeds. The carriers are driven by pinions 41 on shafts 40 carrying pinions 39 engaging a spur wheel 38 on the shaft 12. The carriers are sufficiently long to engage several pinions 41 and bridge several guides 33. Flanges 42 on the pinions 41 engage a flange 37 on the carrier 36 and resist the centrifugal force thereof. The carrier may have rack teeth on its inner margin, its outer margin co-operating with rollers. Heald operating mechanism as described in Specification 392,068 may be used, each pair of healds 18 corresponding to a reed 32. Stop motions, weft. The weft passes through an eye in and normally raises a trip member 45 which is pivoted on the carrier 36. When the weft breaks, the member 45 falls through an opening in the carrier and engages a control rod 50, whereby loom stopping mechanism is actuated. Warps, guiding &c. Warp thread tensioning mechanism as described in Specification 380,793 may be used, the warp passing through a fixed distributing ring 13 and a flexible but non-extensible hoop 14 over a ring 15 through the heald eyes to a second ring 17.
