Abstract

417,107. Rolling. UEBING, H., Rehhecke, Lintorf, D³sseldorf, Germany. May 15, 1934, No. 14643. [Class 83 (iv).] The middle roll 4 of a three-high mill is raised or lowered to form a pass with the upper or lower roll by an electric motor which drives through a slipping clutch or a braked differential gear. In Fig. 4 the crossheads 10 carrying the four lifting rods 9 of the roll bearing blocks 6 are adjusted by a rack 11 and pinion 12 on a shaft 13 driven through the differential gear 20 from a shaft 14 through worm 15 from the motor shaft 16. A brake band 22 on the differential casing adjusted for friction grip, Fig. 6, by a weight 24 allows slip when the roll has been raised and is blocked from further movement by the top roll. Fig. 5 (not shown) illustrates a friction clutch instead of the differential gear. Limit switches may be used instead of the motor.
