Abstract

416,725. Cables. TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO., Ltd., 38, Old Broad Street, London, and RANDALL, W. F., Stretton, Queensmead Avenue, Ewell, Surrey. March 16, 1933, No. 8009. [Class 36.] To prevent absorption of moisture by the insulating layer of a cable comprising a conductor surrounded by a metallic tube or casing and insulated therefrom by a layer of finely divided magnesium oxide, the insulating layer is impregnated with an oleaginous or greasy material, preferably a petroleum hydrocarbon such as transformer oil, petroleum jelly or wax. The layer may be impregnated at the ends of the conductor only. Vegetable, mineral, or neutral oils, either alone or in admixture with rubber or resin, are other materials which may be employed for impregnating the insulating layer.
