[Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (ii).] Lenses; mounting reflectors on lamp casings.-In an electric battery lamp in which the reflector d<1> and the cover glass are combined as a unit which is bodily adjustable with respect to the bulb e so as to project either a concentrated beam or a widely diffused beam, the cover glass comprises a lens front d<4> and a translucent cylindrical wall d<3> of such a depth that, when the unit is adjusted for diffused lighting, it directly surrounds the bulb and light from the bulb then passes laterally through it. In the form shown, the reflector and the cover glass are carried by a sleeve d having an inclined slot f<1> with a longitudinal extension f<2> adapted to engage with a projection f on the cylindrical battery casing a, the slot f<1> allowing for focusing adjustment of the concentrated beam and the extension f<2> allowing the lamp to be used for diffused lighting. The reflector has a central opening to pass over the bulb and the latter is carried by an elongated holder c on a fibre or other insulating disc b, the elongation of the holder and the slot extension f<2> each being of substantially the same length as the wall d<3> of the cover glass. The projection f may be spring loaded so that it can be pressed out of engagement with the slot or its extension, and the sleeve d may be formed with a recess g<1> housing a blade spring g which bears against the casing a to hold the sleeve in position. The holder of a single-contact type of bulb may be mounted in, and have electrical connection with, a pressed-metal socket having tongues radiating from its base for securing it to the insulating disc, and also having a T- shaped extension for connection with the terminal of the battery switch.
