Abstract

212,288. Halvorson. C. A. B. Nov. 28, 1922. Mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-In place of the ordinary glass front of a vehicle or lamp, and secured by similar means, is provided a unit comprising a reflector, a source of light and a glass connected together so that the glass forms a support for the other parts, one of the latter being movable with respect to the glass so as to deflect the beam downwardly. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the reflector and unit comprises a reflector 12 carrying a bulb 13, the reflector being pivoted at 16 to a bearing 17 secured to the glass c. The lower end of the reflector is provided with lugs 22 between which is located a nut 23 engaged by a threaded bolt 24, so that the reflector can be tilted to deflect the beam. To diffuse the beam laterally, the glass c is provided with vertical prisms 27. A second glass 60 with prisms 27 may be provided. In a second form shown in Fig. 5, the reflector 12 is adjustably mounted on the glass c by the engagement of screws 28 with slots 29 and the bulb 13 is adjustably mounted on the glass, the socket member 32 being pivotally mounted in the arms 33 of a yoke, the base portion of which is secured to the glass by a bushing 35 and a nut 36. Extending through the bushing 35 is a screw 40 in the other end of which is provided with an aperture through which one arm of a bent rod 42 is inserted, the other arm engaging an elongated shaft 43 on the member 32. The rod 42 is retained in position by a spring 44 and when the screw 40 is rotated, the rod 42 turns the member 32 on its pivots 46 and then tilts the bulb upwards.
