Abstract
415,058. Frictional igniters. HAMPTON, D. B., 53, South Croxted Road, West Dulwich, London. Feb. 15, 1933, No. 4645. [Class 75 (iii).] The friction-wheel and the wick-cap carrier n are loosely mounted on a shaft j fitted with a handle k. On rotating the shaft in a counterclockwise direction to set the mechanism, an arm q on the shaft engages a pin o and rotates the wheel against the action of a spring p to allow a spring catch r to engage a shoulder t on the wheel, the carrier n being moved simultaneously by a spring pl engaging the pin o to bring the wick-cap m over the wick f. To ignite the wick, the shaft is rotated clockwise until the arm q releases the spring catch r. The wheel n is then rotated by the spring p against the flint h, the wick-cap m being removed simultaneously from the wick by a pin o<1> on the wheel engaging the carrier n. The mechanism may be mounted with the shaft in a vertical position. A plate may be attached to the cap m to cover the opening in a cover v. The igniter may be incorporated in a casing for pocket use or secured in a stand a by a bayonet joint or screw-thread or the fuel container b may be provided in the stand.
