Abstract

414,718. Blasting-cartridges. WHITE, A. G., 45, Caledonia Road, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Jan. 10, 1933, Nos. 869 and 16026. [Class 9 (i).] Relates to blasting-cartridges for use in fiery mines and of the kind comprising an inner core of explosive and an outer " cooling " sheath or jacket not enclosed in a strong casing requiring substantial pressure to be ruptured. According to the invention, the sheath consists of a mixture of ammonium nitrate or perchlorate or an alkali metal perchlorate with one or more cooling agents such as halides of alkali metals, calcium carbonate, and alkali nitrates, to which may be added minor proportions of sensitizing explosives such as nitroglycerine and trinitrotoluene and of carbonaceous materials such as wax. The sheath may be made in various ways, for example, cast with a small proportion of water and may be in an annular space between tubes of paper, metal foil, regenerated cellulose.
