424,785. Blasting - cartridges; explosives. WHITE, A. G., 45, Caledonia Road, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Aug. 30, 1933, No. 24073. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] A blasting-cartridge or bore charge for use in quarries and non-fiery mines comprises a charge of explosive in juxtaposition to a charge of a highly exothermic mixture of a finely divided metal or metal-silicon alloy or compound or both with ammonium nitrate, ammonium perchlorate, or an alkali metal perchlorate or mixtures of these. These charges may be side by side or one behind the other, or preferably the explosive charge is in the form of a core within a cylinder of the exothermic mixture. The explosive may be (a) a burning explosive within classes 1 or 2 of the British Home Office List of Authorized Explosives, or (b) a blasting explosive containing nitroglycerine or a nitric ester, or (c) an explosive consisting of a nitrocompound such as trinitrotoluene alone or mixed with oxidants and carbonaceous materials. The exothermic mixture may contain in addition to the substances mentioned above other substances such as alkali metal nitrates, charcoal, woodmeal or peat.
