Abstract
414,500. Hydraulic transmission of power. LAVAUD, D. S. DE, 82, Rue de la Jonquiere, Paris. June 22, 1933, No. 17871. Convention date, June 22, 1932. [Class 69 (ii).] In hydraulic power transmission devices of the kind having vaned pump, turbine, and converter elements, the elements are so designed that the mean path of liquid round the inner toric space in a radial plane is substantially circular and eccentric relatively to the toric space. The radius Ro, Fig. 1, of the mean path is less than one quarter of the distance of the centre of the inner toric space from the axis of the whole device, the mean thickness of the stream of liquid is from 0À3 to 0À55 of the radius of the mean path, and the product of the radial distance of any point in the mean path from the axis and the speed of tangential flow at that point is constant. The pump vanes have an inlet angle of 45 to 90‹, and an outlet angle of 80 to 110‹, while the turbine vanes have an inlet angle of 40 to 80‹, and an outlet angle of 70 to 110‹. The converter vanes have thickened inlet ends, and the turbine vanes may have hinged or deformable outlet portions. The vanes of each element are arranged between shells 6, 7, Fig. 11, held together by rods 10, the vanes having lugs on their opposite edges fitting into grooves in the shells.
