Abstract

1,022,020. Rotary fluid-flow meters. ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 19, 1964 [Nov. 4, 1963 (2)], No. 42628/64. Heading F1F. A rotary gas-flow meter comprises a rotor 22 having non-radial flat vanes 28 (Figs. 1 to 4 and Figs. 7 to 9, not shown) meshing with a rotary abutment-member 24, and a hollow stationary-member 26 which co-operates with the rotor and member 24 to effect sealing between gas inlet and outlet openings 18, 20 in a casing 38, member 24 being driven synchronously by the rotor through shafts 29, 30 and gears 54, 56 attached thereto. Vanes 28 are inclined at an angle A of e.g. 16 degrees, and member 24 is hollow, to minimize energy losses due to turbulence in the gas. Member 24 comprises a pair of shells 120, 122 (Fig. 10, not shown) having recesses 142 in their radially outermost surfaces to accommodate any particles of solid matter in the gas. A flow-register, or measuring instrument, 162 is driven by shaft 30 through gears 174, 176, a magnetic coupling 180 having a sealing cup 184, and gearing 200- - 206. Lubricating oil stored in chambers 50, 90 is distributed to bearings 44 and gears 54, 56, 174, 176 by centrifugal action from discs 78, 78a attached to shaft 29, chain passages 86, 86a being provided in bosses or housings for the bearings. The rotor and member 24 are centred relative to end-plates 40, 42 by screw threaded bushings 68 (Fig. 6, not shown) and spring-washers 69, the bearings in chamber 50 being located relative to the rotor and member 24 by sleeves 62 having integral oildistributing ribs 82.
