Abstract
A bonding metal alloy for uniting a ferrous liner to a hollow bar in the manufacture of rock drill steels consists of an alloy of 35-65 per cent of silver, 5-35 per cent of manganese and 10-60 per cent of copper, preferably 60 per cent of silver, 10 per cent of manganese and 30 per cent of copper. Part of the silver may be replaced by zinc up to 20 per cent or by cadmium up to 5 per cent or by both zinc and cadmium within these limits. Another alloy consists of copper with 14 per cent of silver and less than 5 per cent of zinc. A flux may be used in the process consisting of equal parts of boric acid or fused borax and potassium fluoride.
